One of the sub-themes of the PandaMania exhibition was the more than 30 year relationship between the United States and China; this panda honors the U.S. President who first reached out to China. According to the artist, the bear "combines different elements of pandas, China and Richard Nixon. Within the intricate design one can distinguish the face of Richard Nixon and other elements of his era. Nixon brought the pandas to Washington in 1972 with the cooperation of the Chinese government. This panda plays homage to Nixon's commitment to bridge and better the relationship between China and the United States in the '70s."
