The inspiration for this panda was the colorful hibiscus flower, native to the original homeland of the artist, Brazil. Petals of the flower are incorporated into the design of the panda figure as a semi-abstract, but the title of the bear comes from a famous literary work by Lewis Carroll. According to the artist, "The panda ... intends to signal a better and more peaceful world, and thus has many details from Alice in Wonderland, such as the rabbit's ears and top hat, Alice's teacup and the butterflies."
